Howard Park ‘Leston’ Margaret River Shiraz 2011

Syrah from Australia - Western Australia
Review Date : 20-Apr-2015
Black red colour, very deep and dark, near impenetrable. This has a full and softly packed nose with savoury dark red plum and black berry fruit aromas, revealing nuances of dark herbs, tar and ink, with mineral notes. Tightly concentrated on palate, this is packed with black fruit flavours entwined with black earth and mineral notes. The palate has a strong and deep core, with fine tannin structure. The fruit is restrained through mid-palate and carries to a long and sustained finish. This is a black fruited and concentrated Shiraz that will become more complex over the next 8-10 years. Fruit from the ‘Leston’ vineyard, Margaret River, fermented to 14.0% alc., a portion finished in new oak, the wine aged 18 months in 40% new barriques, 95% French and 5% American. 19.0-/20 Apr 2015 RRP $45.00 Full, near saturated black-red colour with youthful purple hues. This has a concentrated and finely intense bouquet of ripe black berry and black plum fruit, entwined with subtle spice aromas, black pepper, black florals and perfumes. Full-bodied, well-packed and tightly bound flavours of black fruits, spices, pepper and minerals are fully integrated and balanced, and unfold in gentle lifted waves. The fruit is supported by very fine-grained, powdery tannins and fresh, underlying acidity. The mouthfeel is one of energy, harmony and completeness, and the flavours flow smoothly and evenly to a long, aromatic finish. This is a concentrated, stylishly elegant and balanced Shiraz with ripe, aromatic black fruit flavours. Match with roasted and grilled game meat over the next 7-10 years. Fruit from the ‘Leston’ vineyard, Margaret River, fermented to 14.0% alc., a portion finished in new oak, the wine aged 18 months in 40% new barriques, 95% French and 5% American. 18.5+/20 Apr 2014 RRP $44.00
