Howard Park ‘Flint Rock’ Great Southern Chardonnay 2012

Chardonnay from Australia - Western Australia
Review Date : 20-Apr-2015
Bright straw-yellow colour. The nose is elegant in proportion and softly presented with ripe stonefruit aromas harmoniously integrated with complexing flinty reduction. Elegant on palate also, with a tight, linear flow of citrus fruits and complexing flinty and mineral notes, some nutty oak in the background. This has a firm core and line, the acidity soft and integrated, and the wine carries to a dry finish. This is elegant with balanced fruit and complexing interest, and is still tightly bound. It should open out over the next 4+ years. Hand-picked fruit from the ‘Mount Barrow’ vineyard, Mount Barker, WBP and fermented in tank and barrel to 13.0% alc., the wine aged 10 months on lees with MLF. 18.0/20 Apr 2015 RRP $33.95 Brilliant, even straw-yellow colour with light golden hues. This is elegant in proportion on bouquet with a core of concentrated citrus fruit intermixed with savoury, flinty lees, along with nuances of bacony oak. Medium-full bodied, tightly bound flavours of ripe citrus fruit and savoury stonefruits infused with nutty oak feature on the palate. Subtle flinty complexities and a little toasty oak add detail, and the wine follows a fine, firmly-textured line. Good acidity enhances the fruit richness, and drives the flavours to a tight, long lingering finish with citrus and nutty notes. This is a tight and concentrated Chardonnay with savoury citrus flavours and flinty interest. Match with poultry and pork over the next 5-6 years. Hand-picked fruit from the ‘Mount Barrow’ vineyard, Mount Barker, WBP and fermented in tank and barrel to 13.0% alc., the wine aged 10 months on lees with MLF. 18.0+/20 Apr2014 RRP $32.00
