Hopesgrove Viognier 2019, Hawke’s Bay

Viognier from New Zealand - Hawke's Bay
Review Date : 08-Jun-2021
Bright, even, pale yellow. The nose is softly full and elegant, nuances of barrel fermentation displaying refined oak spices, subtle struck-match underline citrus, stonefruit and a floral hint. Full-bodied, dry to taste, a luscious palate filled with stonefruit, citrus and melon, unfolding delicate spices, subtle toasted almonds and creaminess. The palate is textural with an oily, creamy entry, linger with balanced acidity, fine-phenolic and spice lifting. This is a complex, barrel-fermented Viognier that possesses ripe fruit, balanced acidity on a textural palate. Match with roasted chicken and pork over the next 5+ years. Whole bunch pressed to tank, racked to neutral barriques for wild-fermentation to 13% alc. Aged on lees for 8 months, full MLF, minimal sulphur. 55 cases produced. 18.5+/20 pts (94 pts) June 2021 RRP $30
