Hopesgrove Hawke’s Bay Syrah 2010

Syrah from New Zealand - Hawke's Bay
Review Date : 05-Nov-2012
Very full, dark-hearted, purple-hued ruby-red colour. Powerful and youthfully raw aromas of black berry fruits, black pepper and spicy oak intermingle with dark herb and whole bunch stalk notes. Medium-full bodied, this has a dense, deep core of strong, black fruits, violet perfumes and oak spices infused with herb and whole bunch-like stalk elements. Grainy but supple tannins underline the fruit and contribute to the ruggedness and youthful flavours and mouthfeel. The wine has a sustained finish with pepper and spice nuances that bloom. This is a fulsome Syrah with black fruit, pepper and spice notes along with youthfully raw stalk notes. The wine will benefit with some time to mellow. Match with roasted or grilled herb-encrusted red meat dishes over the next 5-6+ years. MS clone Syrah hand-picked fermented with 5% whole bunch to 14.5% alc., the wine aged 18 months in 25% new French oak. 450 cases made. 17.0+/20 Nov 2012 RRP $45.00
