Hopesgrove Estate Viognier 2020, Hawke’s Bay

Viognier from New Zealand - Hawke's Bay
Review Date : 22-Dec-2021
Bright, pale yellow with a slight green sheen, even colour throughout. The nose is enticing; softly full aromas filled the glass with white floral, apricot, lemon and ginger, along with savoury lees complexity. Medium-full bodied, poised aromas of creamed peach, apricot, lemon entwined with an amalgam of white blossom, unfolding ginger dusting. The mouthfeel is creamy, flow smoothly with silky-fine phenolics, extended by spice and floral to a long, elegant finish. Excellent, balanced acidity provides freshness and lifts the fragrances. This is a refined and ethereal Viognier with immense fragrance, pure fruit and excellent acidity, complexity on a silky palate. Match with pork loin and grilled fish over the next 5+ years. Whole bunch pressed to tank, racked to neutral barriques for wild-fermentation to 13% alc. Aged on lees for 8 months, full MLF, minimal sulphur. 19/20 pts (95 pts) Dec 2021 RRP $30
