Ruby-red with depth and clarity, lighter edged. The nose has bright intensity and complexity; aromas of boysenberries, plums interweave spearmints, violet and black pepper, liquorice and oak spices. Medium-full bodied, nuances of red berries, boysenberries melded with game, black pepper, spearmint and violet. The flavours are integrated and well-proportioned; the brightness of fruit and acidity provides vibrancy to the wine. Fine-grained tannin contributes to a smooth mouthfeel and a light, chewy grip. This is a highly aromatic Syrah with a complex range of flavours on a bright palate. Match with Moroccan spiced lamb and Shanghai-style braised pork belly over the next 5 years. Handpicked on three different dates, destemmed to small open-top fermenters - one ferment 100% destemmed, one ferment with 10% whole bunch, one ferment with 2% Viognier co-fermented; indigenous yeast, 14 days on skins, full MLF, 13.5% alc, and aged in oak for 21 months, 20% new oak. 18.5/20 pts (93 pts) July 2021 RRP $45
