Hopesgrove ‘Estate’ Hawke’s Bay Syrah 2011

Syrah from New Zealand - Hawke's Bay
Review Date : 06-Aug-2015
Moderately deep, dark ruby-red colour, lighter on edge. The bouquet is full, broad and solidly packed with rich, ripe fruit aromas of blackberries harmoniously integrated with black and white pepper, lifted stonefruit aromatics, savoury dark red berry fruits, game, florals and smoke. The nose unfolds in volume with aeration. Medium-full bodied, the palate is full, soft and well-integrated and harmoniously balanced with concentrated layers of ripe black berried fruits, black plums, liquorice, Asian spices, earth and lifted florals. The fruit is sweet and sumptuous, flowing smoothly, the palate underscored by very fine-grained, supple tannins. This has a positive alcoholic drive and line, and the wine leads to a very long and sustained finish with liquorice, plum and exotic floral nuances. This is a harmonious, layered, aromatic and spicy Syrah with sweetness and supple textures. Serve with Middle Eastern and Asian fare over the next 5-8 years. Hand-picked Syrah fruit with 1% Viognier, destemmed and given a cold soak, indigenous yeast fermented to 14.0% alc., the wine given 5 days maceration post ferment and aged 20 months in 25% new French oak barriques. 210 cases made. 18.5-/20 Aug 2015 RRP $40.00
