Hopesgrove ‘Estate’ Hawke’s Bay Chardonnay 2013

Chardonnay from New Zealand - Hawke's Bay
Review Date : 07-Aug-2015
Bright, even, light straw-yellow colour with pale green-gold hues, lighter on rim. The bouquet is soft and gently full, the expression shy and restrained, unveiling subtle, savoury yellow stonefruit and citrus fruit notes. Some tropical fruit and nutty elements grow, and the aromatics possess a steely freshness and youthfulness. Medium-bodied, the flavours of savoury stonefruits and citrus fruit are restrained, and slowly grow in richness and depth. This has good mouthfeel, weight and presence, the wine flowing smoothly on a rounded, creamy, barrel-ferment expressive palate. Rich mealy and nutty nuances unfold. The acidity and textures are integrated and balanced, and the wine flows effortlessly to a long, creamy finish with restrained stonefruit elements. This is a rich, creamy-textured Chardonnay with subtle stonefruit and citrussy flavours. Match with roast pork and poultry over the next 4-5 years. Hand-picked fruit, WBP and indigenous yeast barrel-fermented with no sulphur to 14.0% alc., the wine aged 18 months in 37.5% new French oak barriques with batonnage and 100% MLF. 105 cases made. 18.0/20 Aug 2015 RRP $35.00
