Hopes Grove ‘Estate’ Hawke’s Bay Syrah 2015

Syrah from New Zealand - Hawke's Bay
Review Date : 05-Nov-2018
Dark, deep, ruby-red colour with some depth, a little lighter on the edge. The nose is elegant in proportion, but well-packed with deep and solid aromas of ripe blackberry fruit with suggestions of black plums and a layering of complexing dark herb and earthy notes, unfolding some black pepper and liquorice. Complexing detail of savoury fruits and whole bunch stalk perfumes emerge with aeration. Medium-full bodied, the palate is harmoniously layered with rich flavours of ripe blackberries and plums entwined with complexing dark herbs, earth, black pepper and liquorice. The flavours are harmoniously interwoven and balanced, and the mouthfeel is smooth-flowing with fine, flowery tannin providing structure. The acidity is soft and integrated and the wine carries seamlessly to an elegant finish. This is a rich and harmoniously presented ripe Syrah with black fruits, black pepper, herb and earth complexity on a fine-textured palate with a soft, seamless line. Match with roasted beef, lamb and venison over the next 6-8 years. Hand-picked MS clone fruit, vines planted 2006, destemmed and indigenous yeast fermented with 10% whole bunches to 13.5% alc., the wine spending 12 days on skins post ferment and aged 24 months in 33% new oak. 18.5/20 Nov 2018 RRP $40.00
