Hills & Rivers Hawke’s Bay Merlot 2013

Merlot from New Zealand - Hawke's Bay
Review Date : 27-Jul-2014
The ‘junior’ label of Ash Ridge. Fruit from the ‘Peet’ vineyard on Ngatarawa Road, and fermented to 13.4% alc., the wine aged in barrel. Very dark, deep, purple-hued black-red colour, youthful appearance. The nose is fresh with bold and brash primary fruit aromas of redcurrants, plums and cooler stalk nuances along with lifted red florals. Medium to medium-full bodied, up-front and uncomplicated redcurrant and herbal fruit flavours show with a fresh lusciousness and balanced acid liveliness. The palate has good presence and follows a light tannin line carrying the wine to a simple finish with plum and cassis notes. This is a fresh up-front and uncomplicated Merlot with curranty fruit flavours. Match with Mediterranean fare, pasta and barbecued meats over the next 3+ years. 16.5+/20 Jul 2014 RRP $15.00
