Hills & Rivers Hawke’s Bay Chardonnay 2014

Chardonnay from New Zealand - Hawke's Bay
Review Date : 25-Sep-2014
Clones 15 and 95, one portion fermented with oak contact, the other undergoing full MLF, the wine undergoing batonnage. 13.5% alc. Brilliant straw-yellow colour, lighter on rim. The nose is elegant and tight, a little shy in expression, with stonefruit and citrus aromas intermingling with hints of nutty, spice oak. Creamy lemon curd MLF notes unfold with aeration. Medium-bodied, the fruit is initially restrained, showing stonefruits, citrus and nutty oak with suggestions of toast. Creamy MLF and lifted esters unfold and the wine flows smoothly on a gentle creamy-textured palate. The mouthfeel is fresh with lacy acidity and fine textures carry the wine to a sustained finish. This is an elegant, fresh, aromatic Chardonnay with creamy MLF notes and fine textures. Serve with poultry and pork over the next 3+ years. 17.0/20 Sep 2014 RRP $15.00
