Highfield ‘Elstree’ Marlborough Cuvee Brut 2007

Sparkling Wine from New Zealand - Marlborough
Review Date : 11-Nov-2011
50% Chardonnay and 50% Pinot Noir from a single site in the Wairau, fermented in equal portions in French oak and stainless-steel, secondary ferment in bottle, the resultant wine 12.0% alc., carrying 6.0 g/L dosage, the wine spending 3 years on lees. Bright straw yellow with a light golden hue, pale on rim and with very fine, persistent bead. The bouquet is intensely concentrated and elegant in proportion, showing complex aromas of stonefruit and citrus fruits, nuts and aldehydes, with nuances of oak toast and bread. Dry to taste, this is lively and focussed with excellent acidity underlining the palate and providing energy. A fine, and positive mousse supports the vigour. Concentrated, firm flavours of citrus fruits, smoke, oak spice and nuts are interwoven with subtle layers of yeasty autolysis, and are carried by the acid slipperiness. This has considerable power, but retains style and should develop and soften with greater interest over the next 3-5 years to merit a higher rating. Match with seafood and poultry. 950 cases made. 18.0+/20 Nov 2011 RRP $38.00
