Heredad del Baron Yecla 2009

Mourvedre from Spain
Review Date : 18-Mar-2011
100% Monastrell from 50 y.o. vines fermented to 13.5% alc. and bottled without wood maturation. Mariano Lopez is the oenologist. Dark, deep, purple hued ruby-red colour, very youthful in appearance. This has a soft and light nose of dark berry and boysenberry fruits with fresh herbal notes and violet-like perfumes. Medium-bodied, this is up-front, accessible and juicy fruited, with sweet, near jammy blueberry and boysenberry flavours with a floral note to the expression. Moderately extracted, the wine has drying robustness and decent tannin grip to be a good match with pizza, pasta and Mediterranean fare over the next 2-3+ years. 15.5/20 Mar 2011 RRP $14.95
