Henry’s Drive ‘Pillar Box Red’ Padthaway Shiraz/Cabernet Sauvignon 2013

Blended Red from Australia - South Australia
Review Date : 02-May-2017
Saturated black-red colour, a little lighter on the rim. The nose is softly packed and densely concentrated with aromas of ripe black plums and blackberry fruit along with nuances of currants and cassis, spices, earth and cedar. This has very good vinous presence and unfolds to show some cedary oak volume. Full-bodied, the palate is rich and sweet with flavours of ripe blackberries, boysenberries and black plum jam, along with nuances of liquorice and curranty notes. The fruit is layered with spicy, cedary oak and underlined by grainy tannin extraction and structure, with integrated acidity. The palate flows with vigour to a dry-textured, lingering finish of black fruits, liquorice and cedar. This is a rich, sweet, black-fruited Shiraz/Cabernet with layers of spicy, cedary oak on a grainy structured, vigorous palate. Match with slow-cooked game meat and casseroles over the next 4-5 years. A blend of 76% Shiraz and 24% Cabernet Sauvignon from Padthaway, fermented to 14.5% alc., the wine given 6-8 months oaking, 60% French and 40% American. 17.5+/20 May 2017 RRP $20.00
