Henry’s Drive Padthaway Syrah 2012

Syrah from Australia - South Australia
Review Date : 05-May-2014
Syrah fruit from Padthaway, fermented to 14.0% alc, a portion of the wine finished off in barrel, the wine aged 15 months in80% French and 20% American oak, 25% new. Very full, deep, near-saturated, black-hued purple-red colour. The nose is densely packed and brooding, a little shy at present, but showing ripe black berry fruits with herbs and minerals, along with subtle eucalypt, mint, pepper and tar notes. Medium-full bodied, restrained flavours of ripe, sweet dark plum and blackberry fruit intermingle with mint, pepper and cedar. The mouthfeel is lush and smooth, with fine-grained tannin and extract in harmonious support. The palate flows smoothly with richness, fine textures and balance to a soft, gently concentrated and moderately long finish. A little shy in expression, this Syrah has density, ripe fruit and a smooth and harmonious flow. Match with most red meat dishes over the next 4-5 years. 17.5-/20 May 2014 RRP $24.99
