Henry’s Drive ‘Dead Letter Office’ Padthaway Shiraz 2013

Syrah from Australia - South Australia
Review Date : 18-Mar-2015
Shiraz from estate Padthaway vineyards fermented to 14.5% alc., and aged 15-18 months in 70% American and 30% French oak, a portion new. Full, saturated black-red colour with purple hues, very youthful in appearance. The nose is up-front and intensely aromatic with ripe blackberry and black plum fruit, entwined with liquorice, black pepper, violet florals, and cedary oak. Some volatility adds to the lift. Full-bodied, vibrantly bright and lusciously juicy, ripe black plum and liquorice flavours are layered with spices, pepper, eucalypt and cedary oak. Some violet florals and volatility adds detail and aromatic lift. The fruit is supported by fine-grained tannins and balanced extraction providing a fulsome mouthfeel, and the palate flows with good drive along a concentrated line leading to a lively, bright fruited, lingering finish. This is a sweetly ripe Shiraz with aromatic plum and liquorice flavours, and a well-balanced structure. Match with Mediterranean fare and roasted lamb over the next 6-8 years. 18.5/20 Mar 2015 RRP $29.99
