Heart of Gold Gisborne Albarino 2011

Other White from New Zealand - Gisborn
Review Date : 05-Dec-2011
From the first Spanish importation of the variety by Riversun Nursery, 990 vines are planted in the ‘Spade Oak' vineyard, 2011 being the first crop. Hand-picked and inoculated yeast fermented to 12.0% alc. and 5 g/L rs, the wine spending 6 months on light lees, with no MLF. Brilliant pale straw-yellw colour, very even with depth. The nose softly packed with intense lime and an array of white and yellow floral aromas. Dry to taste, there are piquant and exotic floral flavours, and white peach notes, very concentrated and weighty in presentation and underlined by elevated, slippery acidity. The textures are simultaneously racy and oily, and the freshness of mouthfeel allied to the cut is a feature. The palate has a long, lingering finish marked by crisp, piercing flavours and acidity. This has great fruit depth and cut, and is a wine to match with tapas, and rich seafood and poultry dishes over the next 3-4+ years.
