Hawkdun Rise ‘Summer Wine’ Central Otago Gewurztraminer 2014

Gewurztraminer from New Zealand - Otago
Review Date : 12-Nov-2014
Full, even, light straw-yellow colour. This has a very soft and delicate nose with gentle aromas of rose-petal florals intermixed with subtle nuances of herbs, musk and honey. Off-dry to taste and fullish bodied, the fruit is restrained in expression, showing savoury musk and exotic florals with hints of root ginger. Soft and rounded in texture, the palate is underlined by strong alcoholic drive and warmth. Discreet acidity enhances the richness and sweetness and the wine is carried to a light finish with subtly bitter stonefruit notes typical of the variety. This is a soft, light, savoury and musky, off-dry Gewurztraminer with some alcoholic power. Match with Middle Eastern fare over the next 2-3 years. Hand-picked fruit, WBP and cool-fermented in tank to 14.5% alc., and 10 g/L RS. Only 17 cases made. 16.0+/20 Nov 2014 RRP $28.00
