Haut Espoir ‘Reserve’ Franschhoek Chardonnay 2005

Chardonnay from South Africa
Review Date : 04-Aug-2012
Single vineyard wine from the Franschhoek Valley, with full indigenous yeast barrel-fermentation to 14.0% alc., the wine aged 12 months in barriques, given batonnage, and undergoing MLF. Bright golden-yellow colour, full and even, showing some age. This has a very full, broad nose with an oxidative overlay and a complex amalgam of nuts, toasty oak and MLF with ripe tropical fruit remnants. Rich, soft, lush and broad with an openness and accessibility, the wine is mouthfilling with ripe peach and tropical fruits, nuts, toast, and a definite oxidative elements. Fully developed, this should be drunk up. Very much a New World expression. 16.5-/20 Jul 2012
