Hans Herzog ‘Spirit of Marlborough’ Marlborough 2005

Blended Red from New Zealand - Marlborough
Review Date : 07-Oct-2015
Very dark ruby-red colour with a black-red heart, youthful in appearance. The bouquet is fulsome and densely packed with layers of complex flavours, showing savoury dark red plum, tobacco, undergrowth, dried herbs and game. This has excellent secondary complexity with a richness of fruit. Full-bodied on palate, a little restrained, stylishly so, but revealing complex layers of savoury red plum fruit entwined with game, tobacco, undergrowth and cedary flavours. The wine is lusciously rich, with a fine tannin line and structure, and driven by considerable power. This will evolve another decade. 50% each Merlot and Cabernet Franc, fermented to 14.5% alc., the wine aged 30 months in 50% new French oak barriques. 19.0-/20 Oct 2015 RRP $69.00
