Hãhã Merlot 2019, Hawkes Bay

Merlot from New Zealand - Hawke's Bay
Review Date : 24-Jun-2020
Dark, deep ruby-purple with a lightness, even throughout. The nose is gently-full with aromas of violet, dark plums and blackberries, melded with savoury meatiness and nutty oak element. Medium-full bodied, the palate is fresh and youthful with flavours of dark plums and blackberries, along with savoury meat and nutty oak element. The acidity is lively, provided freshness and support; along with lightly firm fine-grained tannin extraction, contributed to the body and mouthfeel. This is an amiable, youthful Merlot with lively acidity and fine-grained tannin extraction. Match with meat barbeque over the next 2-3 years. Vegan friendly. 100% Merlot fruit from elevated terraces along the Ngaruroro River. Fermented in a mix of oak barrels and stainless steel tanks to 13% alc. 50% aged in French oak barrels for 10 months. 17.5/20 pts June 2020 RRP $17.99
