Haha Hawke’s Bay Merlot 2014

Merlot from New Zealand - Hawke's Bay
Review Date : 04-Feb-2015
Very dark, near impenetrable black-red colour with youthful purple hues. This has a full open and seamless and harmonious, aromatic nose of ripe dark plum fruit with layers of blackberries and boysenberries. Medium-full bodied, the palate features soft, plush and juicy, mouthfilling flavours of ripe, dark plum fruit melded with blackberries and boysenberries. The fruit is aromatic, with hints of confectionary. The mouthfeel is soft with fine-grained tannins and low acidity lending a rounded, mouthfeel. The fruit and textures are complimentary and balanced and flow smoothly, receding to a gentle, dry finish. This is an up-front juicy, plum and boysenberry fruited Merlot with a soft-textured mouthfeel. Match with pasta, pizza and barbecued fare over the next 3+ years. Fruit from the ‘hill country’ and Gimblett Gravels districts, fermented to 13.5% alc., 90% of the wine aged 7 months in French oak barrels. 17.5-/20 Feb 2015 RRP $16.99
