Guigal ‘Ex Voto’ Hermitage 2009

Syrah from France - Rhone
Review Date : 03-Jan-2015
Very dark, black-red colour with youthful purple hues. The nose is very concentrated with densely packed black fruits with plentiful layers of spice and sweet, cedary, new oak, unfolding toast and earth, all harmoniously interwoven, the oaking growing in prominence. Full-bodied, the fruit is sweet, opulent and lusciously ripe with an array of rich and savoury dark red fruits interwoven with considerable layers of cedary, spicy oak which grows and fills the palate. The tannins are firm and fine-grained, clearly with a strong oak-derived layer, lending a dry, textural mouthfeel and structure. This has enormous power and length. This is Top-end Guigal oaking, a statement wine and a "colossus” which will live 12-15+ years. 100% Syrah from vines 40-90 y.o., fermented to 14.0% alc., the wine aged 42 months in new French oak. Approx. 330 cases made. 18.5+/20 Nov 2014 RRP $535.00
