Guigal Crozes-Hermitage 2005

Syrah from France - Rhone
Review Date : 17-May-2011
This is 100% Syrah including fruit from the Vallouit estate, 35 y.o. vines, aged 18 months in oak. Deep ruby-red with a light edge, this is dense, but a little locked in on bouquet, showing savoury game and brambly secondary aromas with a some reduction, integrating with the fruit and development. A robust and dense wine, this is firm and tight, the tannin grip featuring on palate. The fruit is a little four-square, without real perfume, but has complex flavours. A little brettanomyces animal component showing also. Drink with hearty fare over the next 4-6 years.  May 2011
