Gruss Alsace Gewurztraminer ‘Eguisheim’ 2011

Gewurztraminer from France - Alsace
Review Date : 22-Jun-2013
Brilliant straw-yellow with lemon-green hues, pale on edge. This has a rich and intense, pure nose which retains real finesse, with attractively perfumed rose-petal, lychee, honey and musk aromas enhanced by herb and creaming soda elements and a steely, minerally edge. Medium-dry to medium in sweetness, beautifully delicate flavours of Turkish Delight, musk, honey and creaming soda form a linear core, supported by a fine textural thread and finely crisp acidity. The fruit has a subtle lusciousness, with some alcohol sweetness that leads to a very refined, long-lingering finish with a minerally crispness and a hint of classical varietal bitterness. This is an elegant and pure, exotic fruited Gewurztraminer with excellent balance. Match with Asian cuisine over the next 3-4+ years. Gewurztraminer from 0.51 ha from 30+ y.o. vines in the ‘Hagelberg’ site, hand-picked and WBP, then fermented to 13.9% alc. and 21.2 g/L rs, the wine undergoing batonnage. 330 dozen made. 18.5/20 Mar 2013 RRP $32.00
