Greywacke Marlborough Chardonnay 2010

Chardonnay from New Zealand - Marlborough
Review Date : 02-Oct-2017
Pale straw-yellow colour. The bouquet is very tightly bound and concentrated with a complex amalgam of white stonefruits, gunflint reduction, creamy barrel-ferment, nutty lees and oak. On palate, this has real size and presence. The flavours show well with breadth, and layers of stonefruit, oak, and complex inputs. Yet there is a dense and taut core that promises much more. This has an undeveloped character at heart, but has revealed much. The finish is particularly long and nuanced. This is great wine. 19.5/20 Sep 2017 RRP $N/A Bright, light golden-yellow colour. The nose is extremely complex with layers of savoury yellow stonefruits nutty oak and flinty, leesy detail that unfold from the deep and intensely concentrated core. This is in the sophisticated white burgundy style. Full-bodied with a densely concentrated palate, the mouthfeel is harmoniously melded with an array of ripe fruits, creamy and nutty barrel-ferment, MLF and flinty layers of interest. The wine is integrated and smooth-flowing and carries to a rich, sustained finish with lovely blossoming detail. This is drinking superbly. 19.5/20 Sep 2015 RRP $N/A Primarily Mendoza Chardonnay fruit with some clone 95 from the Brancott Valley, Fairhall and Rapaura, indigenous yeast fermented in barrel to 14.5% alc., the wine aged 15 months in 25% new French oak barriques, undergoing some batonnage and 100% MLF, and then given another 4 months on lees out of barrel. Full straw-yellow colour with some depth and light golden hues. The bouquet is full and voluminous with complex flinty lees and reductive aromas featuring, underlined by soft citrus and stonefruit notes, nuts and smoke. The nose grows in intensity and breadth in the glass. Full-bodied, the flavours are stylishly restrained, building in richness, weight and texture. An array of citrus and stonefruit flavours are intermixed with nuts, minerals, flint and smoke. The mouthfeel possesses lusciousness and creaminess, balanced by discreet acidity and guided by a fine textural line and understated power, to a very long and sustained, fulsome finish. This is a complex-flavoured, fine-textured Chardonnay that builds in richness and power. Match with poltry, pork and veal over the next 4-5+ years. 18.5+/20 Jun 2013 RRP $41.95
