Greystone Waipara Valley Riesling 2015

Riesling from New Zealand - Canterbury & Waipara
Review Date : 09-May-2016
Bright, light straw-yellow colour with lemon-green hues, pale edged. This has a soft and elegant, blossoming nose with aromas of exotic yellow florals, lime fruit with tangerine nuances, hints of honeysuckle, cut by pure and clean, refreshingly and mouthwatering steely mineral notes. Medium in sweetness and medium-bodied, the palate is fresh in presentation with gently rich, but vibrant flavours of lime and tangerine fruits alongside nuances of honey and exotic florals. The fruit brightness and sweetness is balanced by poised acidity, and the mouthfeel is simultaneously rich and fresh, showing excellent balance and tension. Mineral detail is present and is carried along a very fine-textured line leading to a crisp, mouthwatering, dryish finish. This is a beautifully rich, medium Riesling with exotic fruit flavours and a poised palate with freshness and mineral nuances. Match with Asian and Middle Eastern fare and with mildly spicy food over the next 4-5+ years. Two-thirds of the fruit from the high limestone blocks and one-third from ‘Block 7’ with clay and sandstone soils, the fruit with a small amount of botrytis, tank-fermented to 12.5% alc., 23.1 g/L RS, TA 7.74 g/L and pH 3.22. 700 cases made. 19.0-/20 May 2016 RRP $28.00
