Clone 95 Chardonnay fruit from ‘Block 2' on clay soils and Mendoza clone from ‘Bock 12' hand-picked, WBP and fully barrel-fermented with indigenous yeasts to 14.4% alc., the wine aged 11 months in 25% new French oak, with 50% undergoing MLF. Bright, full straw-yellow colour with some golden hues, lighter on rim. The bouquet is very intense, concentrated and packed with white and yellow stonefruit aromas combined with citrussy elements and laced with flinty, minerally, lees work, all promising to unfold more. Full-bodied and with a mouthfilling presence, densely concentrated, soft textured flavours of ripe citrus fruits, nutty oak and flinty lees form a rounded, soft and luscious core. Barrel-fermentation creaminess flows through the palate, and the soft acidity contributes to the breadth and richness that carries through to a warm and generous finish. This is a full-bodied, lush and creamy-textured Chardonnay showing plenty of citrus and leesy flavours. Match with hearty poultry and pork dishes over the next 4+ years. 18.0+/20 Oct 2012 RRP $32.95
