Greystone Waipara Chardonnay 2009

Chardonnay from New Zealand - Canterbury & Waipara
Review Date : 13-Mar-2011
Made from clone 95 fruit from ‘Block 2' overlooking the Omihi Stream and Mendoza clone from the steep ‘Block 12', this was fully barrel-fermented to 14.3% alc. and aged 12 months in French oak with 40% undergoing MLF. Full, limpid light golden hued straw-yellow in colour, this has a lovely bouquet of ripe grapefeuit and peaches with distinctive coconut-like oak aromas adding interest. An elegant and finely-proportioned wine in the mouth, this is still tightly bound. The flavours are of ripe yellow stonefruits, with citrus and tropical layers. The barrel-fermentation has provided a sweet spiciness and nuttiness, as well as contributing to the smooth, creamy textures. A moderately complex, satisfying Chardonnay that will gain interest over the next 3-4+ years. Drink with poultry and pork dishes. 225 cases made. 18.0+/20 Mar 2011 RRP $35.00
