Greystone ‘Sand Dollar’ Waipara Valley Pinot Gris 2015

Pinot Gris from New Zealand - Canterbury & Waipara
Review Date : 09-May-2016
Bright, light straw-yellow colour with a hint of blush and slight green hues on the rim. The nose is soft and voluminous with deep and concentrated aromas of yellow stonefruits entwined with subtle nuances of yellow florals, honeysuckle, nuts and mineral elements. The mineral notes grow in detail and the nose appears more complete with aeration. Dry to taste and medium-full bodied, the palate is rich and weighty with well concentrated and gently sweet fruit flavours of white and yellow stonefruits, florals and honeysuckle, unveiling nuances of nuts and minerals. The mouthfeel is rounded but shows good phenolic texture and fruit extract at the core, with soft, ripe acidity and some alcoholic drive lending linearity. The wine carries to a long finish that blossoms in exotic floral and nutty, flinty detail. This is a weighty and rich-fruited, dry Pinot Gris with stonefruit, honeysuckle, nutty and flinty flavours and plenty of balancing structure. Serve with most white meat courses over the next 4+ years. Fruit from the dense clay soils of ‘Block 2’, fermented with approx. 10% by indigenous yeasts in seasoned French oak to 14.0% alc. and 4.0 g/L RS, the wine aged 5 months on lees with batonnage. 440 cases made. 18.5+/20 May 2016 RRP $28.00
