Greystone ‘Erin’s’ Waipara Valley Chardonnay 2015

Chardonnay from New Zealand - Canterbury & Waipara
Review Date : 12-Mar-2017
Bright, light golden-yellow colour with some depth, lighter on the edge. The nose is full and softly concentrated with good density of ripe citrus fruit and yellow stonefruit aromas harmoniously melded with mealy notes and nutty oak, along with toasty elements, unfolding creamy barrel-ferment and flinty nuances. Full-bodied, the palate is well-packed with deep and dense flavours of ripe citrus fruit and yellow stonefruits interwoven with mealy notes, nutty oak and flinty minerals. The palate has a very concentrated, flavoursome core with power and drive, the wine flowing along a firm textured line. Subtle barrel-ferment creaminess and integrated acidity balances the phenolics, and the wine carries to a fulsome, lingering finish of mealy stonefruits and nutty detail. This is a rich, powerful and concentrated Chardonnay with densely packed, complex flavours of mealy stonefruit and nuts. Match with rich poultry, pork and veal dishes over the next 5-6+ years. Mendoza clone fruit from the ‘Brothers Block’, hand-picked and indigenous yeast barrel-fermented to 14.5% alc., the wine aged 15 months in 50% new French oak with 100% MLF. 44 cases made. 19.5/20 Mar 2017 RRP $95.00
