Greylands Ridge Central Otago Pinot Noir 2014

Pinot Noir from New Zealand - Otago
Review Date : 26-Mar-2015
Moderately deep, dark ruby-red colour with youthful purple hues, lighter on rim. The nose is a little restrained, with subtly concentrated aromas of fresh and ripe dark raspberry fruit entwined with black cherry and dark red plum notes. Nuances of thyme herbs, spicy, nutty oak and violet perfumes add detail and interest. Medium-bodied, softly rich and well-concentrated flavours of ripe dark raspberries and plums are complexed by nuances of thyme herb, spices and oak. The fruit is lifted by florals and grows in depth and plate presence, supported by supple and balanced tannin structure. The mouthfeel is sweet and lively, the discreet acidity adding energy to the juicy plum and liquorice fruit flavours which carry through to a long, lingering finish. This is a rich and softly concentrated Pinot Noir with balance and structure. Match with beef, lamb, venison and semi-hard cheeses over the next 6+ years. Hand-picked fruit, 60% clone 115, 20% clone 5 and 20% 667/777, fermented to 13.2% alc., the wine spending 17-48 days on skins and aged 10 months in new and seasoned French oak. 250 cases made. 18.0+/20 Mar 2015 RRP $35.00
