Hand-picked fruit from the ‘Barraud’ vineyard, Upper Moutere, from vines 10 y.o., tank fermented with 15% in seasoned oak to 13.66% alc. and 13 g/L RS, the wine aged on lees. Bright, even, golden-straw colour, lighter on edge. The bouquet is tightly concentrated and elegant in proportion with subtle rose-petal floral aromas interwoven with ginger elements. Nutty nuances and a fresh steeliness add to the firmness of nose. Off-dry to taste and medium-full bodied, the palate is deep and weighty with restrained flavours of rose-petal florals, ginger and nuts. The mouthfeel is the feature with sinewy phenolic structure and alcoholic power and drive. Discreet acidity lends energy and enhances the richness which is carried to a strong weighty finish. This is a full, weighty, medium-dry Gewurztraminer with restrained flavours but good body and power. Serve with Middle Eastern and Asian fare over the next 3-4 years. 17.5-/20 Nov 2014 RRP $21.00
