Dark, deep, ruby-red colour with black hues, a little lighter on the rim. The nose is finely concentrated with a firm core of ripe blackberry fruit melded with black minerals, unfolding layers of spice and earth, with liquorice elements. Subtle nutty and toasty oak notes emerge with aeration. Medium-full-bodied, the palate is well-proportioned with a concentrated core of ripe black fruits with notes of dark-red berry fruits, entwined with earth, liquorices, spices and minerals. The mouthfeel is firm at the heart, with fine-grained tannin extraction providing positive structure and linearity. The flavours lead to a sustained and packed finish of black fruits, earth, minerals and toast. This is a firmly concentrated Shiraz/Mourvedre blend with ripe black fruits along with liquorice, mineral and toasty notes. Match with roasted and grilled lamb, beef and venison, and semi-hard cheeses over the next 8-10 years. A blend of 64% Shiraz and 36% Mourvedre from the ‘Daly Road’ vineyard near Lyndoch, fermented to 14.5% alc., the wine aged 16 months in seasoned French, Hungarian and American oak hogsheads. 18.5-/20 Jan 2017 RRP $24.99
