Grant Burge ‘Benchmark’ South Australian Shiraz 2009

Syrah from Australia - South Australia
Review Date : 25-Oct-2011
Deepish ruby-red colour with some purple hues, youthful in appearance. This has a moderately deep, soft nose of ripe dark plum fruit with notes of liquorice and menthol, up-front and appealing. Medium-full bodied, well-ripened, sweet flavours of dark berry fruits and plums with black pepper are enhanced by chocolate and liquorice elements with some lifted eucalypt nuances. The discreet extraction provides a fine grainy texture, with the juiciness of the fruit showing through. Ripe, dark plum and liquorice flavours carry through to the finish. South Australian Shiraz fruit fermented to 14.0% alc., the wine aged 12 months in American and French oak. An easy, pleasing and warming Shiraz with sweet fruit to match with pizza, pastas and barbecued food over the next 3-4 years. 17.0/20 Oct 2011 RRP $14.95
