Goldie Waiheke Island Merlot/Cabernet 2013

Blended Red from New Zealand - Northland & Auckland
Review Date : 21-Aug-2015
Very dark, deep, black-hued ruby-red colour, lighter on edge and youthful in appearance. The nose is full and well-concentrated with fresh, vibrant and primary fruit aromas of dark red berry fruits with notes of dark red and black plums, harmoniously entwined. Layers of cooler blackcurrant leaf, pepper and fresh herbs emerge with aeration. Medium-full bodied, bright and lively, juicy, up-front fruit flavours of raspberries, redcurrants and blackcurrants are layered with red plum notes. The flavours are integrated with herbal detail and enlivened by fresh, lacy acidity. Moderate extraction provides a fine-grained core and line, and the wine flows with good energy to a dry-textured, slender finish of blackcurrant leaf and herbs. This is an elegant, juicy, cooler-spectrum blend of Merlot and Cabernet, with harmonious flavours and a lively, fine-textured mouthfeeel. Match with herb-marinated red meat dishes over the next 4-5 years. A blend of 50% Merlot and 50$ Cabernet Sauvignon, hand-picked and fermented to 14.0% alc., the wine aged 11 months in oak. 17.0+/20 Aug 2015 RRP $28.00
