Goldie Waiheke Island Chardonnay 2014

Chardonnay from New Zealand - Northland & Auckland
Review Date : 21-Aug-2015
Bright, pale straw-yellow colour, lighter on the rim. The nose is elegantly concentrated with a tight core of ripe yellow stonefruits and citrus fruits along with a harmonious amalgam of rich, creamy barrel-ferment notes, toasty oak and nutty detail that gently unfolds in layers. Medium-full bodied, the palate is subtly sweet and rich with well-concentrated flavours of savoury yellow stonefruits and citrus fruits, the palate rounded and with presence, featuring creamy barrel-ferment textures. Nutty and toasty oak add interest, and the wine has underlying power that drives the palate along a fine-textured line with balanced acidity providing good energy. The flavours carry through to a strong, sustained dry finish with stonefruit and nutty nuances. This is a well-concentrated Chardonnay with good creamy barrel-ferment and nutty flavours and underlying power. Match with roasted pork over the next 5+ years. Hand-picked fruit, WBP and fully barrel-fermented to 14.0% alc., the wine aged 10 months in new and seasoned French oak barriques, the wine undergoing batonnage and partial MLF. 230 cases made. 18.0+/20 Aug 2015 RRP $28.00
