Goldie Waiheke Island Chardonnay 2011

Chardonnay from New Zealand - Northland & Auckland
Review Date : 16-Apr-2012
Bright straw-yellow colour, lighter on rim. The bouquet is gently full, revealing interwoven aromas of ripe citrus fruits with subtle mealy notes, restrained buttery MLF elements and spicy new oak. Medium-full bodied, this is elegantly presented, quite sleek and tight with bright citrussy fruit flavours alongside spicy, nutty oak and some buttery elements. This has some richness to the mouthfeel, but the wine is very fine-textured, the fruit enlivened by racy acidity which lends a steeliness to the palate. The flavours build in depth and carry through to a very long and sustained finish. This elegant Chardonnay is fresh and crisp with intense and long citrus flavours, and balanced oak. Serve with grilled and roasted seafood and poultry over the next 4-5 years. Fruit hand-picked and WBP, and fully barrel-fermented to 13.5% alc., the wine aged in new and seasoned French oak barriques for 10 months, the wine given lees contact and partial MLF. 18.0+/20 Apr 2012 RRP $36.00
