Goldie Waiheke Island Cabernet/Merlot/Franc/Syrah 2011

Blended Red from New Zealand - Northland & Auckland
Review Date : 21-Aug-2015
Dark garnet-red colour with some depth and lighter brick hues on the rim. The bouquet is light with an elegant core of integrated aromas of dark red berry fruit harmoniously melded with subtle layers of blackcurrants, dried herbs, mint and savoury, secondary earth and game notes, along with cedary oak. Medium-bodied, the fruit expression is restrained, but harmonious and integrated with a softly packed core of dark red berry and plum fruit flavours along with currants and a hint of herbs. Savoury secondary nuances are developing. The mouthfeel is soft and smooth-flowing with fine-grained, supple tannins and subtle, lacy, acid energy. The palate line carries the wine to a soft, light, dry and mellow finish. This is an elegant and harmonious Cabernet and Merlot based blend with gentle, developing flavours and a smooth palate. Match with slow-cooked game meat dishes over the next 4+ years. A blend of 29% each of Cabernet Sauvignon and Merlot, 28% Cabernet Franc and 14% Syrah fermented to 13.0% alc., the wine aged 10 months in 20% new French oak. 17.5-/20 Aug 2015 RRP $60.00
