Gold Star Work ‘Merlot Malbec X’ Central Hawke’s Bay Merlot/Malbec 2010

Merlot from New Zealand - Hawke's Bay
Review Date : 20-Jun-2015
Dark, deep ruby-red colour with slight garnet hues on rim. The bouquet is soft and even with harmoniously interwoven aromas of savoury red and brown berry fruits, dried herbs, earth and game-like notes, along with lifted cedary oak elements that build in depth and density with aeration. Medium-full bodied, the flavours of soft red and savoury plum and berry fruits are open and accessibly presented. Initially shy, the fruit grows, revealing herbs, earth spices and cedary oak. Soft tannin extraction lends a dry, gentle texture to the mouthfeel, and the wine flows smoothly to a moderayrly long finish of earth and cedar. This is a soft, easy, savoury and earthy fruited Merlot and Malbec blend with plum and cedar flavours and a soft, dry palate. Serve with pasta, pizza and barbecued fare over the next 4 years. A blend of 86% Merlot and 14% Malbec, hand-picked and fermented to 14.1% alc., and aged 10 months, a portion in oak barriques. 1,800 bottles made. 16.5+/20 Jun 2015 RRP $19.90
