Glasnevin ‘Limited Release’ Waipara Valley Pinot Noir 2015
Pinot Noir from New Zealand - Canterbury & Waipara
Review Date : 01-Apr-2017
Moderately dark ruby-red colour with some depth, lighter on the rim. The nose is softly presented with gently voluminous aromas of ripe, dark-red berryfruit along with savoury black cherry fruit entwined with subtle herb and complexing nuances of earth and minerals. Medium-bodied, the palate has even, mouthfilling flavours of dark-red berry and cherry fruit intertwined with spicy oak notes along with savoury herb, earth and mineral elements. The fruit forms a soft and dense core with underlying fine-grained tannin extraction providing plenty of mouthfeel, texture and grip. The acidity is integrated, enlivening the fruit richness, and the wine carries to a sustained finish of savoury fruit and spicy oak. This is a gently mouthfilling Pinot Noir with good depth of savoury fruit and spicy oak and earth detail, and fine grainy structure and a fresh mouthfeel. Match with wild duck and pork dishes over the next 5+ years. Hand-picked fruit from two sites on Georges Road, fermented with 15% whole bunches to 14.0% alc., the wine aged 18 months in 40% new French oak barriques. 18.0/20 Apr 2017 RRP $35.00.
