Glasnevin ‘Limited Release’ Waipara Valley Gewurztraminer 2011

Gewurztraminer from New Zealand - Canterbury & Waipara
Review Date : 27-Feb-2012
Fruit from the ‘Fiddler's Green' vineyard on Georges Road, hand-picked and indigenous yeast barrel-fermented to 14.5% alc. and 15.3 g/L rs, the wine the aged a further 6 months in seasoned French oak barriques. Bright straw-yellow colour with pale golden hues, light on rim. This has a very concentrated, intensely packed nose of tropical fruits, Turkish Delight, ginger, caramel and musk in a complex amalgam. Medium-dry to medium, rich and complex flavours of caramel, tropical fruits, herbs and ginger fill the mouth, forming a concentrated core. Round, oily textures and restrained acidity add and unctuous richness enhancing the breadth and depth of flavour. The palate has an underlying firmness, and the finish is sustained, with bold, burnished, near bitter flavours of brown spices and ginger. This is a firmly rich and complex-flavoured Gewurztraminer to match with flavoursome pork dishes, pates and terrines, and with Middle Eastern cuisine over the next 3-4 years. 18.0+/20 Feb 2012 RRP $28.00
