Gladstone Vineyard ‘Reserve – Sophie’s Choice’ Gladstone Barrel-Fermented Sauvignon Blanc 2016

Sauvignon Blanc from New Zealand - Wairarapa & Wellington
Review Date : 18-Dec-2018
Bright, light golden-hued straw-yellow colour with lemon-green hues, pale edged. The nose is softly full with an array of yellow stonefruit aromas with nutty oak, fresh herbs and waxy, lanolin suggestions along with oxidative complexities. This has good depth and intensity, unfolding spicy oak elements. Dry to taste and medium-bodied, the palate has an elegantly concentrated core of yellow stomefruits entwined with soft, nutty, oxidative notes along with waxy and lanolin flavours. The palate has a light, phenolic-textured grip and light, lacy acidity providing freshness and liveliness. The phenolics carry the wine to a long, textured finish with some drying grip. This is an elegant, oak-influenced Sauvignon Blanc with stonefruit, waxy lanolin and oxidative complexities on a phenolic-textured palate with some dry grip. Match with Mediterranean dishes over the next 3 years. Fruit from the ‘Home’ block, vines over 30 y.o., hand-picked and fermented in a new 500 L puncheon to 12.5% alc. and 1.62 g/L RS, the wine aged 8 months in barrel, then aged a further 4 months in tank, with approx. 15% MLF. 17.5-/20 Dec 2018 RRP $35.00
