Gladstone Vineyard ‘Reserve – Sophie’s Choice’ Barrel Fermented Sauvignon Blanc 2012

Sauvignon Blanc from New Zealand - Wairarapa & Wellington
Review Date : 26-Jun-2014
Bright, even straw-yellow colour with slight green hues, pale on rim. Concentrated and firmly packed aromas of gooseberries, cool-spectrum cut grass and green stonefruits are entwined with creamy, nutty barrel-ferment and spice notes, providing a complex bouquet. Dry to taste and medium-bodied, up-front, luscious and juicy flavours of green stonefruits show with good depth and presence. The flavours are grassy and are enlivened by slippery acidity, subtly building in richness, revealing waves of spices and nuts, with a creamy roundness to the mouthfeel. The palate follows a fine, zesty line leading to a light, dry finish with nectarine, greengage and herby nuances. This is an up-front, grassy barrel-fermented Sauvignon Blanc with richness and slippery flow. Serve with herb-marinated poultry dishes over the next 2-3+ years. Fruit from the ‘Home’ block from 25 y.o. vines, hand-picked and WBP, fully barrel-fermented to 13.0% alc. and 0.89 g/L RS, the wine aged 10 in barrel with batonnage. 17.5/20 Jun 2014 RRP $35.00
