Giunta Malbec Nouveau 2020, Hawke’s Bay

Malbec from New Zealand - Hawke's Bay
Review Date : 27-Jan-2021
Deep, ruby-red with a purple core, lighter purple edged. The nose is vibrant and softly full, nuances of blackberries, bramble, balsamic strawberries entwined with dusty spices, violet and earthy minerals. Medium-full bodied, succulent flavours of blackberries, bramble, balsamic strawberries filled the palate, accompanied by a dusting of spices. The palate is bright with fine, powdery tannins, providing a smooth grip; ample acidity is integrated and lifting, leaves a salivating closing. This is a fun, salivating Nouveau style Malbec with bright berry fruit and a smooth tannin grip. Match with barbeque game meat and pork ribs over the next 2-3 years. Malbec clones 595 & 1056 from Bridge Pa Triangle, most of the fruit was destemmed and lightly crushed, a portion of whole bunches allowed for carbonic maceration, fermented to 12.5% alc. Full MLF, pressed to tanks, racked off after 3 months in July, then bottled for spring "Nouveau" release. 18/20 pts (90 pts) Jan 2021 RRP $19
