Giesen ‘Small Batch’ Marlborough Pinot Noir 2014

Pinot Noir from New Zealand - Marlborough
Review Date : 10-Oct-2016
Even, light ruby-red colour with slight purple hues on the rim. The bouquet is moderately full and voluminous with well-concentrated aromas of savoury dark-red berry fruits nuanced by red liquorice and raspberry liqueur notes, unveiling complexing dried herbs and spicy oak detail. Medium-full bodied, the palate is brisk with racy acidity enlivening and enriching the fruit flavours of savoury red berries. Layers of dried herbs, liquorice and spicy oak add to the interest. The fruit and acidity is supported by light, fine, sinewy tannin providing a firm, guiding line. The wine carries with good energy to a complex, spicy and savoury nuanced finish. This is a rich, savoury-fruited Pinot Noir with complexing dried herb and spicy oak notes on a brisk and racy palate with sinewy tannins. Match with wild duck and pork over the next 4+ years. Hand-picked Pinot Noir fruit from the Southern Valley and Middle Wairau Valley, fermented with approx. 10% whole bunches to 14.0% alc., the wine aged 10 months in approx. 35% new oak. Batch No. 3MPNSWV. 17.5+/20 Oct 2016 RRP $32.99
