Giesen ’30 Staves’ Marlborough Sauvignon Blanc 2014

Sauvignon Blanc from New Zealand - Marlborough
Review Date : 10-Oct-2016
Full, even straw-yellow colour with light green-gold hues. This has a full, solid and bold bouquet with voluminous aromas of green stonefruits, with greengages and nectarines, finely interwoven with mealy and nutty notes and a subtle layering of secondary green beans, unfolding herb and smoky oak elements. Dry to taste and medium-full bodied, the palate is fully packed with deep and fulsome flavours of greengages, nectarines and green stonefruits entwined with nutty oak, revealing secondary green bean notes. The mouthfeel is rounded and rich with considerable depth and soft textures, balanced by a fine line of underlying acidity that carries the flavours to a long finish. This is a fulsome and bold, solidly packed, rounded oak-influenced Sauvignon Blanc with flavours of greengages and nutty oak, with some secondary green bean elements. Serve with herb-marinated poultry and pork dishes over the next 2-3 years. Fruit from Dillons Point and Matthews Lane, fully barrel-fermented by indigenous yeasts to 13.0% alc., the wine aged 10 months in French barriques. Each barrel has 30 staves, hence the name. 18.0/20 Oct 2016 RRP $24.99
