Gianni Gagliardo ‘Preve’ Barolo Riserva DOCG 2003

Nebbiolo from Italy - Piedmont
Review Date : 30-Jun-2012
Dark, deep ruby-garnet colour with bricking on edge. The bouquet features distinctive citrus peel and savoury red florals ntermixed with red fruits and some undergrowth. Quite intense and desely packed on the nose, this seems tight.with more to release. Full-bodied, this is a solid, dense and concentrated, chunky wine. The extraction is considerable and the feature on the palate. Game meat and savoury herb flavours lie in the tannic frame, and the mouthfeel is dry and one of grip and size. Some warmth and ripe black-brown fruits emerge, with some sweetness too on the finish. This is a powerfully tannic wine with strong gamey flavours, a little bretty. A real mouthful, that is drying. Match with slow-cooked meat dishes and casseroles over the next 5-8 years. Will it soften? The top wine for many tasters, however. Fruit from the ‘Parafada' site in Serralunga d'Alba and ‘Conterni' in Monforte d'Alba, fermented to 13.5% alc., the wine aged 18 months in barrique, then a further 12 months in large casks. 17.5/20 Jun 2012 RRP $244.00
