Geyser Peak California Merlot 2012

Merlot from USA
Review Date : 15-Sep-2016
Full, even, dark ruby-red colour, a little lighter on the edge, youthful in appearance. The bouquet is light and reserved, growing to show gently concentrated aromas of dark red berry and redcurrant fruit entwined with plum notes. Some leaf and stalk notes emerge, along with spice elements and nutty, oak-like nuances. Medium-bodied, the palate possesses a well-packed core with sweet, dark red berry fruit, redcurrant and plum flavours melded with dark herbal notes and a suggestion of leaf and stalk. The flavours reveal aromatic herbal elements and gently fill the mouth, the palate enlivened by fresh, lacy acidity. The wine follows a fine, grainy, tannin line lending presence, which carries to the finish. Reserved on bouquet, this Merlot has sweet flavours of dark-red berry and curranty fruit, a lively mouthfeel and light, grainy tannins. Match with lamb and beef dishes over the next 3+ years. Fruit fermented to 13.5% alc. 16.0+/20 Sep 2016 RRP $15.99
