Georges Road ‘Selection’ Waipara Pinot Gris 2015

Pinot Gris from New Zealand - Canterbury & Waipara
Review Date : 30-Nov-2015
Brilliant straw-yellow colour with pale golden hues, lighter on the rim. The nose is softly full with well-packed aromas of ripe yellow stonefuits harmoniously melded with honeysuckle exotic yellow florals, unfolding detailed nuances of pears and savoury nutty hints. Off-dry to taste and medium-full bodied, the flavours are stylishly restrained, but the palate has good presence and vinosity. The mouthfeel is soft and the acidity integrated lending a suggestion of unctuousness. This is balanced by fine acidity, and the wine flows smoothly, with some underlying power, revealing yellow stonefuits, honeysuckle, pears, florals and nuts as it carries to a fine-textured, sustained finish This is a restrained, stylish, off-dry Pinot Gris with real vinosity and presence. Match with Middle Eastern fare over the next 4 years. Hand-picked fruit, clones 2/15, 2/16, Ovaille and Barrie, WBP, and indigenous yeast barrel-fermented to 14.5% alc. and 8 g/L RS, the wine aged 6 months on gross lees. 500 cases made. 18.5-/20 Dec 2015 RRP $24.50
